Lesbians and pheromones, Part 3. Healthday.com article
Yours truly was quoted in a HealthDay article by Kathleen Doheny. This piece sticks much closer to the actual report than the AP article does.

Interesting that the author of the study had to throw in that bit about whether change was possible ("we have no evidence, but we suppose it wouldn't work").
Indeed, she has no evidence.
Warren, answer this question: what kind of evidence would gay activists need? Because anything that points to the contrary of their preconcieved notions will promptly be explained away. On the other hand, unrelated studies, like this one, are promptly used to help support a conclusion that being gay is inborn, when in fact the author of the study makes no such assumption.
Either way, nothing will satisfy the activists until they have their way, in its gay entirety.

I do get a little weary of addressing the fact that everyone has assumptions. I don't know to address your question what would be needed. Certainly self-report isn't enough. I really don't care how much or if they change feelings at all. I am interested in how people choose a valued path despite feelings to the contrary.

Anonymous, yes, there are some 'gay activists' who use studies like this one. However, I think you'll find that there are also some 'ex-gay activists' who might jump all over studies like white on rice as well.
The phenomenon you describe has less to do with being an [insert policy goal here] activist than it does with being a shoddy and unsophisticated thinker.
As far as having "their way, in its gay entirety", I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean the destruction of the perfect hetero American family, the establishment of an entirely gay-run state and the indocctrination of children across the country, you've found us out.
If you mean rights under law, which do not diminish anyone else's ability to hold a contrary opinion--such as my ability to visit my partner in the hospital, pay a normal amount of taxes as an established couple, be able to bequeath retirement funds to one another, etc--then yes, I want that in its "gay entirety."
