BBC Documentary "Sad to be Gay"

I was interviewed over two days for this documentary. Alas, citing time limitations, the producers did not include the footage in the piece. I am anxious to see it however and review the "lab work" from Qazi Rahman. I talked with David Akinsanya for over 2 hours here in Grove City and then a couple of times afterwards by phone. I am supposed to receive a copy of the documentary soon. I will provide a review once I get it. If anyone reading this sees where it will be shown in the US, please post it.

Comments:
Warren, I think what was told to you is better called English manners than "they never called me back".

It's on BBC2, 9pm tonight local time (9 Aug). The "outcome" has already been discussed elsewhere --sorry, there has been a leak in the BBC. Heavens, it's the Downing St memos all over again... :-)

Well, they called me back twice and recorded David talking to me on the phone. I am not sure if I was not controversial enough for them (in that I did not try to change him or put him into the reparative box) or the habit I have of dragging my knuckles on the pavement when I walk.

Ooh, you've got to stop that. Doesn't it hurt?

Perhaps wear platform shoes, again -- ha ha, we've all seen your photos from the 70's!

( Nope, it's GCC, that was 2003... :-P )

Clogs maybe, but never platforms. I'm afraid of heights.

I have a feeling he was probably expecting some hell, fire and brimstone, but found a mild mannered person on the end of the phone - you've gotta stop being so polite, you'll give yourself a reputation for being nice :-D

As for platforms - gotta love them, the problem is, I'm already tall enough as it is, wearing them would result in injuries to ones head :-(

kaiwai - Is that you in that picture? You are tall, indeed. Well, I can be snippy, just ask grantdale...

na, I'm around 6"2' - I look tall because my brother was too lazy to get off the couch and take a photo of me properly - hence the perception of being tall :-D

Oh, that and the fact that I have short legs, and a long body and arms - yeap, I'm the walking ape :-D

I"m not worried if you're a little snippy; believe me, we're all alot different when we're in person; it seems that the net allows one to throw off all the constrants one imposes on themselves in normal, everyday life.

Nothing wrong with snippy. I do snippy.

Apart from anything else, "irascible" is a word I still choke over when spelling. Brain obviously didn't wire right for that one.

And 6'2" is not tall? Stop being so falsely modest -- that's a vanity you know... /snip

RE: grantdale

lol, to be honest, if there was height re-adjustment surgery, I wouldn't mind being 4-6 inchs shorter, a height that is a little more 'normal'.

MInd you, getting back to the issue at hand, just had a look, its interesting that he is seeking someone to blame, and he never actually answers *WHY* he isn't happy being gay (yeah, I see the irony of that).

And as for being a father, be he homosexual or heterosexual - he is a psychological train wreck, and quite frankly, he isn't in the position now, or even later, to be able to cope with the stresses of being a parent - until he gets his own life, in order, he shouldn't be trying to drag anyone else into the picture.

Indeed, I made a similar comment elsewhere.

Even if Tinkerbelle appeared and granted him his wish, would that make him content? Or would that life provide yet another set of "issues", another reason to beat up on yourself?

(But that's a novel idea -- being confirmed mentally competant before becoming a parent... pfft, good luck!)

Off topic again: I completely agree, 5'9" is a PERFECT height to be. I've grown to tolerate (but not affirm) 6'1" too. For others, that is.

He wouldn't be happy - its like a person who gets everything he or she ever wished for; even with everything, they won't be happy.

It brings up the whole philosophy of dreaming and providing inspiration - the idea of dreaming about getting something, but once got it, the lack of satisfaction.

I guess that spawns off from the philosophical ideas of how one can be materially well off, and yet, still be misserable.

Just a follow up; if one needs to get religious on the matter, from the Buddhist perspective (the Seven Noble Truths) - his suffering is derived from desire, and that desire is to change his orientation to meet the 'requirements' or 'desires' of others - the desires that he thinks are his own, are actually those of others, which he thinks, if he lives up to, his life will be better.
